Dear La Cocina Municipal Marketplace Supporters,

La Cocina is in the process of transforming its Municipal Marketplace from a food hall featuring seven businesses to an incubator kitchen that will support our greater entrepreneur community.

La Cocina is an incubator program that provides affordable commercial kitchen space, technical assistance, and access to sales for primarily BIPOC and immigrant women food businesses. So, this change in format is our way of responding to the economic reality we were facing, which included not getting enough sales. We hope to reduce our expenses and make this space accessible to more businesses in our incubator program to strengthen our impact.

We were attempting to provide a place that provides economic opportunities for working-class immigrant and women-of-color small businesses while creating jobs and a welcoming, inclusive, and affordably delicious space for working-class residents and people who want to eat with purpose. Places like what was formerly the La Cocina Municipal Marketplace can’t live on admiration alone. They require support. We hope you can embrace this change with us and take the time to continue supporting this work by learning about all the new businesses that will be working out of this space, supporting them, cheering them on, and eating their food.

Let’s do what we can to create a vibrant, inclusive and supportive food economy. Thank you to the City of San Francisco and everyone who has shown up -- including the Tenderloin community and partners who have opened their arms to us and providing so much support along the way.

More updates will be provided soon. Please follow us at @lacocinasf on Instagram to stay informed on what's happening in our community.

Boug Cali will be closed on Friday Oct 6. Marketplace will be closed on Monday Oct 9 for Indigenous Peoples' Day.
